QSense Analyzer – Advanced Analysis of Surfaces and Interfaces

RISE PFI is in the process of installing and commissioning our QSense Analyzer from Biolin Scientific. The instrument is part of the NORCELlab research infrastructure (The Norwegian Cellulose Laboratory)

The QSense Analyzer is a powerful, high‑precision instrument designed to study surface interactions in real time. Based on a Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation monitoring (QCM‑D) technology, it provides unique insights into mass adsorption, viscoelastic properties, and structural changes at surfaces and interfaces.

Advanced Analysis of Surfaces and Interfaces

What Does the QSense Analyzer Measure?

Unlike traditional surface analysis tools, the QSense Analyzer simultaneously measures both:

  • Mass changes at the surface (including hydrated mass)
  • Viscoelastic properties of thin films and adsorbed layers

This dual capability enables a deeper understanding of how materials interact, not only how much material is present, but also how it behaves structurally.

Key Applications

The QSense Analyzer is widely used across research and industry for studying:

    • Biomolecular interactions
Protein adsorption, ligand–receptor binding, antibody–antigen interactions, and DNA hybridization.
    • Surface coatings and thin films
Characterization of polymers, multilayer assemblies, and functional coatings.
    • Cell and bacterial studies
Cell attachment, spreading, and biofilm formation on surfaces.
    • Nanomaterials and soft matter
Behavior of nanoparticles, vesicles, liposomes, and hydrogels.
    • Electrochemistry and corrosion processes
Monitoring surface changes during electrochemical reactions.
    • Food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic formulations
Stability and structure of complex formulations at interfaces.

    Key Advantages

    • Real-time monitoring of dynamic processes
    • High sensitivity to nanoscale mass changes
    • Simultaneous structural insight through dissipation measurements
    • Versatile environmental control, including liquid flow, temperature, and chemical conditions

    Why Choose QSense Analyzer?

The QSense Analyzer goes beyond simple mass detection, offering a complete picture of interfacial phenomena. Its ability to capture both quantitative and structural information makes it an essential tool for researchers and engineers working with complex surface processes.
