RISE PFI at International Conferences in Summer 2026

Renewable Resources and Biorefineries 2026

RISE PFI participated in “The 22nd International Conference on Renewable Resources and Biorefineries” (RRB 2026) in Leuven, Belgium, from 1 to 3 June. The conference brought together researchers, industry representatives, and policymakers focused on accelerating the transition to a sustainable bioeconomy.

Mihaela Tanase-Opedal presented the study “Extraction, Separation and Concentration of Protein from Brewery Spent Grain: A Combined Alkali Pretreatment with SANI Membrane Technology.”

 

European Technical Coatings Congress 2026

RISE PFI participated in the “European Technical Coatings Congress 2026” in Prague, Czech Republic, from 30 June to 2 July. The congress brought together experts from academia and industry, covering topics such as advanced coating technologies, functional coatings, raw materials, sustainability, testing and characterization methods, digitalization, production processes, and industrial innovations.

Mihaela Tanase-Opedal presented the study “Fire Resistant Water-Based Coating.” The work investigates lignin as a promising fire-resistant component in water-based coatings.

RISE PFI at international conferences

 

Cellulose International Summit 2026

RISE PFI was represented at the “Cellulose International Summit” (CIS 2026) in Grenoble, France, from 29 June to 2 July. The conference brought together leading research groups and industry representatives within cellulose and bio-based materials.

Kristin Syverud delivered the keynote presentation “Engineering with Nanocellulose: Structure, Properties and Cross Sector Opportunities.”

PhD candidate Asle Hammer from NTNU presented the work “Water Interactions in Cellulose Ester Films: Thin Film Sensitivity and Macroscopic Barrier Behaviour.” The research is part of the NxtBarr project, for which RISE PFI is the project owner and contributes to the supervision of the doctoral research.

RISE PFI is and internationally acknowledged research institute within processes and products based on lignocellulose. RISE PFI´s focus areas are Fibre technology and fibre-based products, Biorefining and Bioenergy and Biopolymers and Biocomposites.
