As the first lab in Norway, RISE PFI offers recyclability analysis of paper and board products according to the harmonized CEPI method.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

RISE PFI is the first lab in Norway to offer the analysis for evaluation of the recyclability of paper and board products. The analysis follows the procedure for the harmonized recyclability analysis presented by CEPI (Confederation of European Paper Industries), which is based on the industrial processes where recycled products are recovered at a paper or board manufacturer. The purpose of the analysis is to assess the most important parameters for recyclability.<\/p>\n

RISE PFI has all the necessary tools required for CEPI\u2019s method, and broad experience in using them. The harmonized method includes steps such as pulp disintegration, screening of undesired compounds (coarse screening and fine screening), analysis of process water, sheet forming and assessment of residual impurities using digital image analysis tools. Analysis of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and quantification of macro stickies are optional additional analyzes that increase the robustness of the evaluation. In addition, RISE PFI can offer further investigations beyond the recommendations from CEPI to tailor the offer for all customer requests. Such investigations can be physical and mechanical properties of paper, fiber morphology, ash content and chemical composition in various fractions from the recyclability analysis.<\/p>\n

The analyzes carried out by RISE PFI will be compiled into a report with valuable information for any company who is either going to produce a new type of paper or board-based packaging solution or who is considering taking a given paper or board product into their factory as a recycled raw material. The report describes the recyclability of the product by giving a quantitative description of the reject and accept fractions after coarse screening and fine screening. The remaining impurities in the recycled fiber mass are then assessed based on guidelines from CEPI. The guidelines focus on the size and number of non-fiber-based foreign matter in sheets produced from the accept fractions, as well as the type of foreign matter present (plastic, metal, coating, etc.). Results from analyzes of chemical oxygen demand and macro stickies will be able to support the overall assessment of the product. Finally, photos of all the fractions are included in the report, as well as a discussion with a representative from RISE PFI to highlight the most important results.<\/p>\n
