By 2034, the share of Norwegian raw materials in animal feed is to be increased from the current level of 55% to 70%, and all ingredients must come from sustainable sources. At present, the majority of the fiber-rich raw materials used in compound feed production are imported, and the industry is seeking alternatives that can increase the share of Norwegian-sourced ingredients without significantly raising costs.

As part of the KornVerdi project, Fiskå Mølle Trøndelag AS, in collaboration with Fôrforedling AS and RISE PFI, has demonstrated that grain cleanings possess a nutritional composition and quality suitable for replacing currently imported fiber ingredients. Through simple pellet processing, the material becomes manageable as a raw material in Fiskå Mølle Trøndelag’s compound feed production. A test production further demonstrated that grain cleanings can be included in certain compound feed mixtures at levels of 10–20%, with positive effects on nutritional value, cost, and a reduction in the use of imported fiber sources.

The project was partially funded by the Regional Research Fund Trøndelag and is described as a success story by the operations manager at Fiskå Mølle, Veronica Speilberg.
