Development of new bio based materials using nanotechnology.
The objective of this project was to create new functional biofibre-based materials with industrially attractive properties. Functionalized microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) was developed by modification of never-dried MFC using tailored chemical coupling reactions.
On a more general level, another objective was the development of a national platform of expertise in manufacture, characterisation and utilisation of MFC (and cellulose in general) as a raw material in new products.
R&D partners:
Paper and Fibre Research Institute (PFI), SINTEF Materials and Chemistry, Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
PFI has served as project owner and coordinator. The project was carried out as a competence building R&D project under the NANOMAT program of the Research Council of Norway. The project was finalized in 2007.
