A sustainable alternative to petroleum-based and cotton-based fibres

Textile fibres from wood can be a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based and cotton fibres. In this project, we want to investigate different processes to produce textile fibres from wood, focusing on the Lyocell process. In this process, cellulose is dissolved in an organic solvent. Textile fibres can be spinned from this solution and the organic solvent can be recycled.

In this project we will map the raw materials from the Trøndelag forest that can be used for production of textiles. Further, potential producers and end-users of these fibres/textiles will be identified, and the suitability and profitability of the proposed process will be assessed.
