Novel fibre-based water barrier packaging
The principal goal of this project is to develop new innovative fibre-based packaging and multilayer concepts that represent a documented step change in important product characteristics, such as barrier properties, flexibility and environmental profile.
By studying the interactions between wood fibre structures and novel polymeric materials, new multifunctional coatings and tie layer formulations can be developed.
This enables a transfer from traditional multilayer concepts and polyethylene coating technology towards more simplified and environmentally attractive on-line coating and production technology. The project is partly funded by the Research Council of Norway, and is a cooperation between partners from industry, institutes and universities.
