RISE PFI is an internationally acknowledged ­research ­institute within processes and products based on lignocellulosic biomass. We develop novel and sustainable products and solutions for the future biobased society, including materials, chemicals, energy products and feed ingredients.

Being founded in 1923, we have been dedicated to biorefinery research for 100 years.

RISE PFI AS is part of the Swedish research institute RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden AB). Altogether, RISE counts with 2800 employees in 5 divisions, where RISE PFI is part of the division Bioeconomy and Health.

Our vision is to be an internationally leading innovation partner. Through research, development and innovation, we strengthen our customers’ long-term competitiveness, and contribute to a sustainable societal development.

Renewable lignocellulosic biomass can be used as raw material for a wide range of products and applications. We work as an innovation partner for customers in many different industries, in close cooperation with partners and customers representing the required disciplines and the relevant value chain levels.

RISE PFI is part of the Norwegian institute sector and is among the ten technical-industrial research institutes in Norway receiving base funding.

We are the coordinator of two Norwegian national research infrastructures:

• Norwegian Biorefinery Laboratory (in operation)
• Norwegian Cellulose Laboratory (to be established – funding announced in December 2021)
