RISE PFI participates in the European research project REDYSIGN, aiming to develop novel, sustainable packaging solutions for packaging of fresh meat.

As part of the REDYSIGN-project, researchers from RISE PFI recently spent a week in Spain to visit two of the partner’s production facilities.

The first visit was to Pack Benefit’s production plant for sustainable food packaging in Valladolid. The next project steps were discussed with Pack Benefit and the other partners.

The journey continued to Burgos, where the Royal Mint of Spain (Fabrica National de la Moneda y Timbre (FNMT)) has operations. After a tour of the facilities, the discussion was focused on how markers technology at FNMT can be applied to identify food packaging during sorting.

The visit also included a short stay at Tecnalia, one of the other research institutes in the project. Based on results gained at RISE PFI earlier in the project, the partners discussed next steps towards pilot trials of TMP-refining at reduced energy consumption.
