We continue advancing with innovations in flooring products from the ALLOC project. The new one in the pipeline is a flooring sensor. RISE PFI, Åbo Akademi, Turku University of Applied Sciences and Alloc AS have worked closely together to assess the sensitivity response behavior of three low-cost dielectric materials, two biodegradable paperboards, and one acoustic polymeric foam. A full-scale flooring sensor (dimensions 120 cm × 400 cm) with a 2 × 8 matrix structure was demonstrated. The results show how such a flooring sensor, utilizing low-cost substrates, can be used to detect single-stepping, walking, and falling.
