Coproduction of biocarbon reductant material and biogas transportation fuel by combining pyrolysis technology with anaerobic digestion
The PyroGas project aims at developing new technology for producing biocarbon reductant material and biogas transportation fuel based on lignocellulose side streams from paper production.
Norske Skog Saugbrugs is project owner for PyroGas. If successful, Norske Skog Saugbrugs can scale up production of biogas transportation fuel and become a producer of sustainable biocarbon reductant material for the Norwegian ferroalloy industry. The PyroGas project is of high strategic importance for Norske Skog Saugbrugs to broaden the product portfolio from the mill.
A novel pyrolysis technology concept has been developed which produces a new type of biocarbon reductant material with high carbon yield and good functionality with respect to use as a reducing agent in manganese production. The R&D activities have been lead by RISE PFI.
